The world is changing whether we like it or not" - Mina Farinacci

Mina Farinacci is something of an anomaly, educated in the arts before climbing the ranks to become Managing Partner of BDO Canada.

She elaborated on this career journey when she met with Gary Kalaci, CEO and Host of the business podcast ‘Firing On All Syllables.’

Their engaging conversation covers a wide range of topics, from the importance of mentorship and work-life balance to the critical role of innovation and cybersecurity in today's business landscape.

  1. Cultivate a mindset of continuous innovation to stay ahead in a rapidly changing business landscape.
  2. Embrace positivity in leadership to inspire and motivate your team.
  3. Prioritize cybersecurity as a critical component of your business strategy in the digital age.

1. Embracing Change and Continuous Innovation

In an era of rapid digital transformation, Mina Farinacci emphasizes the crucial need for businesses to foster a culture of continuous innovation. We often think of innovation as only a tool for developing or iterating on a product or service, but Farinacci offers a different perspective.

"Innovation is every day… It's the way you act with clients, the way you act with your employees… making these little changes just makes you a better person."

Innovation is a mindset that permeates everyday actions and interactions. In an age where technologies and services change several times a year, a leader or a business must be known by their values and interactions, not just their product.

2. The Power of Positive Leadership

Farinacci is renowned for her positive disposition and dynamic leadership style. She advocates for positivity in leadership, believing that optimistic leaders inspire their teams and create more productive, engaged work environments.

"If you want to be an inspiring leader to your children, to your family, to your team… You have to be positive."

For Farinacci, being positive means seeing the problem for what it is, rather than falling into despair. This isn’t a practice of baseless optimism, but rather a decision to remain confident in you and your team’s ability.

3. Prioritizing Cybersecurity in the Digital Age

In discussing the increasing digitalization of business, Farinacci highlighted the critical importance of cybersecurity. She expressed concern that organizations often underestimate potential cybersecurity issues and fail to allocate sufficient resources to this crucial area.

"People underestimate the issues of cybersecurity… It's very scary, honestly. We [businesses] can't underestimate this part, and I still see today people, businesses are underestimating this part."

"Innovation is every day. It's the way you act with clients, the way you act with your employees… making these little changes just makes you a better person."

"If you want to be an inspiring leader to your children, to your family, to your team… you have to be positive."

"People underestimate the issues of cybersecurity… if your business gets hit… you lose the trust of your brand, your company and all of that."

Mina Farinacci's perspective on innovation, leadership, and cybersecurity provides valuable guidance for those seeking to thrive in an increasingly digital and interconnected business environment.

BILL 96 WEBINAR (PART 1) - IN CASE YOU MISSED ITBILL 96 WEBINAR (PART 1) - IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

If you're operating in Quebec, you’ll by now be familiar with Bill 96, the Quebec government’s proposed law that is expected to take effect this summer. The bill will update the Charter of French Language, otherwise known as Bill 101, ensuring that nearly all business contracts, human resources activities, public services, marketing, and just about anything else will be available in French.

The highly contentious bill has generated applause by some, and protests by others. Whatever your opinion of the new law, you must be prepared to take action before Bill 96 takes effect.

To help explain the impact of Bill 96, we recently assembled a panel of experts including Keyvan Nassiry (Nassiry Law), André de Maurivez (CIBC), Tania Da Silva (DLA Piper), and Gary Kalaci (Alexa Translations). Our panel discussed the general impact of the bill, provided recommendations for all businesses operating in Quebec, and explored the nuances of human resources and contractual law under Bill 96.
